How Much Exercise Does a Dog Need Daily?
Daily exercise is essential for a dog’s physical health, mental stimulation, and overall happiness. However, the amount of exercise a dog needs depends on several factors, including breed, age, size, and energy level.
Most adult dogs need at least 30 to 60 minutes of exercise every day. This can include walks, playtime, running, or interactive games. High-energy breeds like Border Collies, German Shepherds, and Labradors may need 1 to 2 hours of exercise daily to stay calm and well-behaved. Without enough activity, these dogs can become bored and destructive.
Puppies have lots of energy but should exercise in short, controlled sessions to protect their growing joints. Multiple play sessions spread throughout the day are better than one long workout. On the other hand, senior dogs usually need less intense exercise, such as gentle walks, to keep their joints flexible and maintain a healthy weight.
Mental exercise is just as important as physical activity. Training sessions, puzzle toys, and scent games can tire a dog out even when long walks aren’t possible.
In short, a well-exercised dog is a healthier, happier, and more balanced companion. Understanding your dog’s specific needs and providing daily activity will help ensure a long and joyful life together. 🐾
